Mind your language is the message being sent to the Prime Minister by people concerned about the tone of the commentary about Australia's counter-terrorism efforts.

They've expressed concern over Tony Abbott's use of terms such as 'dealth cult,' 'hate preachers' and 'Islamist fanatics'.

Joe Caputo is the chair of the peak group the Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia.

It lobbies on behalf of Australians from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Mr Caputo told Greg Dyett he's concerned the tone of the commentary could alienate some people.
