Malcolm Turnbull has vowed to hold talks with Murray Goulburn after dairy farmers were dealt another price-cut blow by the processor.

The prime minister says the treatment of farmers is troubling and the price saga was a matter of great concern to the government.

"If we are re-elected what I will do is sit down with the management of Murray Goulburn and directors and go through these issues," he told Alan Jones on 2GB radio on Wednesday.

Independent senator Jacqui Lambie says Australians should pay an extra 50 cents per litre of milk.

She warned the latest price drop by Murray Goulburn would mean dairy farmers in Tasmania won't be able to hold on much longer.

"I have been begging (Agriculture Minister) Barnaby Joyce for 50 cents a litre to put it on a milk levy - there is no other way out of this," she told ABC radio.
