Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is taking action to lift the number of female MPs in his party.

The Liberal Party federal executive will oversee a 10-year plan to achieve an equal number of women and men after several women were ousted at the last election.

"I am committed to working on genuine organisational change to see this become a reality," Mr Turnbull told The Australian on Tuesday.
