Six men have appeared in a Papua New Guinea court over the attack on a group of Australian and New Zealand trekkers and their local porters earlier this month.

The six men were arrested by local police following the attack on the trekking group on the Black Cat Track.

Local reports say the men have also been charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and armed robbery.

The case against the six defendants was adjourned to December and the men were remanded in custody.

If found guilty the men could face the death penalty after PNG’s parliament reinstated capital punishment earlier this year.
