Brisbane NRL player and Papua New Guinea international David Mead has joined Catalans Dragons in the Super League on a three-year contract.

The 29-year-old, who can play anywhere across the backline, joins from the Broncos after an earlier stint with Gold Coast.

He will bring a wealth of experience to the south of France, having captained the Kumuls at the recent World Cup.

"My family and I are grateful for the opportunity the Catalans Dragons have given us," Mead said.

"My time at the Broncos under (coach) Wayne (Bennett) has been extremely enjoyable and now I look forward to learning all about the French culture when I join my new teammates, coaching staff and management at the Dragons in a few weeks."

His signing represents a coup for Catalans coach Steve McNamara, who is overseeing a rebuild ahead of his first full season in charge.

"His blistering speed and attacking assets have been proven in the NRL over a number of years and these were further enhanced with his recent performances for Papua New Guinea," the former England boss said.

"Captaining his country also created the perfect opportunity for him to show his leadership qualities and we look forward to seeing this part of his game grow further with the Catalans Dragons."
