The Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea is due to consider whether an appeal against the lawfulness of the Manus Island detention centre be allowed to resume today.

In March this year, the PNG National Court launched an inquiry to examine conditions at the detention centre initiated by Justice David Cannings.

The inquiry was halted by a legal challenge funded by the Australian Government alleging apprehended bias on the part of the presiding judge.

Amnesty International, assisted by the Human Rights Law Centre, will make submissions to the Court today calling for the inquiry to be recommenced.

Human Rights Law Centre Director of Legal Advocacy, Daniel Webb, spoke to Zara Zaher about the case.
