Polish football authorities were left embarassed overnight after a riot marred the end of the Cup final.

The match between Legia Warsaw and Lech Potsnan was decided after a penalty shootout. Legia fans surged onto the pitch in celebration after clinching the match- 5-4, but joy soon turned to anger with missiles being thrown.

That led to disorder amongst the Potsnan supporters at the other end of the ground. Although the 20,000 stadium in Bidgosh-ch isn't one of the venues for next year's Euro competition a UEFA delegation monitoring preparations was at the match.

The Polish Government has already legislated for heavier penalties against hooligans in a bid to curb the countries' poor reputation for football related violence.
