Sea World's polar bear cub is on the move, soaking up the Gold Coast sunshine at a specialised area at the theme park.

The three-month old bear has begun exploring the park's "Cub Kindy" with mum Liya, frolicking in shaved ice, interacting with new toys and sampling her first solid food.

The outdoor play is the next stage in the cub's development after spending most of her life so far with mum in a den.

"The first time the cub saw Cub Kindy, she was a little nervous, but after watching and learning from mum her confidence grew and she began to dig, run and play in the ice and is now starting to spend more time out there," Sea World marine sciences director Trevor Long said.

"The cub has also been introduced to her first toys in Cub Kindy and she's taken a real shine to a small ball which she enjoys playing with and chasing around the ice, keeping Liya on her toes."

Mr Long says the cub continues to grow and it won't be long until she makes her first appearance for the public at the park.

In the meantime the park is continuing an online poll to determine the cub's name with Mishka currently the front-runner after 20,000 votes had been received.
