Nearly 40 people have been arrested for drug offences, after a sniffer dog operation at a Melbourne music festival.

Police say of the 39 people arrested at the Godskitchen festival on Saturday night, 34 were referred to a drug diversion program while four men were charged with possessing a drug of dependence and one man was charged with possession and warrant offences.

Drugs seized included ecstasy and amphetamines.
