Queensland parliamentarians and their staff will be subjected to background checks under proposed legislative amendments introduced by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.
The amendments to existing laws are being pursued after it was revealed last year that one of former child safety minister Sharon Fentiman's electoral officers had a criminal record for child pornography.
Safeguards over the sourcing of criminal history checks, and the use and distribution of that information are included in the bill, the premier said on Tuesday.
