Queensland police have executed a search warrant at the ABC office in Brisbane over Newman government cabinet documents that were leaked to journalists.

A police officer visited the national broadcaster's South Bank studios on Wednesday afternoon in relation to a complaint by Queensland Cabinet Secretary Leighton Craig.

Police said a "number of items were seized" but declined to comment further.

The complaint relates to stories from February 2017 by ABC journalists Mark Willacy and Alexandra Blucher about the Liberal National government's budget cuts in 2012.

The confidential documents revealed Campbell Newman's "razor gang" used a "pain threshold ranking" ranging from one to four, with one the "easiest", to decide job and other cuts.

It was also reported the government sold the profitable Ecofund Queensland, a company combating climate change whose revenues were set to double.

Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath and Police Minister Mark Ryan referred questions to Queensland police.

An ABC spokeswoman told AAP the broadcaster was co-operating with police.
