Four police officers fell ill after finding a drug lab inside a motel room on the NSW mid-north coast.

They went to the Taree motel about 1am (AEDT) on Saturday after receiving calls about a domestic dispute.

After entering the room, the officers allegedly found a clandestine drug laboratory.

They arrested a 28-year-old man who was taken to Manning Rural Hospital after falling ill.

Four police at the scene also became ill and were taken to hospital for treatment.

They've since been released.

Police said the officers were exposed to chemicals while in the motel room.

The 28-year-old has been taken to Taree Police Station.
