Family violence has no place in Australian society - that's the message police across the country are sending as part of White Ribbon Day.

Held every year on November 25, the day raises awareness for violence against women and children.

Australian police will participate in different events to raise awareness on Monday.

Victoria Police will hold a community day with a soccer match at Popup Park in Dandenong from 8.30am (AEDT).

NSW Police are taking part in a 250km bike ride from Newcastle to Sydney with a breakfast to be held at the Blacktown Workers Club at 6.30am (AEDT).

Queensland Police will participate in an obstacle course and different events at Reddacliffe Place in Brisbane at 11am (AEST).

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Rollo says attitudes about family violence need to change.

"It's so important to speak up if you see or know someone is being abused in the home so that we can break the cycle of abuse," Mr Rollo said.

White ribbons will be available in shops across the country.
