Police investigate Parramatta documents

The NSW Police Force has obtained a copy of the NRL's breach notice to Parramatta and is investigating whether any fraud occurred.

The Parramatta salary cap saga has taken another turn with police confirming they are looking at documents pertaining to the NRL club's salary-cap breaches.

The investigation centres on whether fraud occurred while the Eels were cheating the salary cap.

The NSW Police Force obtained a copy of the NRL's breach notice, and Fairfax Media reported that the Australian Taxation Office had also made inquiries into the club.

Club chairman Steve Sharp, deputy Tom Issa, football manager Daniel Anderson, CEO John Boulous and director Peter Serrao are alleged to have arranged, or been aware of, payments to players outside of the game's rules.

The NRL says the club has paid players more than $3 million over the salary cap since 2013, making payments via third-party arrangements, cash and inflated or fictitious invoices.

The club will lose its 12 competition points earned this season for breach of the cap while the NRL stood down the five Eels' officials.
