A man is due to appear in court over the 2009 grisly murder of Edward "Ted" Kearines in Townsville.

On Wednesday night a 43-year-old man was charged with the December 4, 2009 violent murder of the 53-year-old butcher and truck driver in a Townsville boarding house, police confirmed to AAP.

The man is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The arrest comes after a $250,000 reward was offered earlier this month for information to solve what the police described as a "very violent attack".
