Police name dead man found in Bankstown

A man whose body was found wrapped in a sheet in a southwest Sydney street has been formally identified as 39-year-old Son Thanh Nguyen.

NSW police hit streets to stop shootings

Police arrested 14 people during an operation aimed at preventing more shootings across Sydney.

His body was discovered in Bankstown about 11.30pm (AEST) on Wednesday, and police released his name on Saturday.

Mr Nguyen was found with his hands bound behind his back, wrapped in a bed sheet and dumped in Antwerp Street.

Detectives from State Crime Command's Homicide Squad and Bankstown Local Area Command have formed Strike Force Nyanda to piece together the last hours of his life.

"I would urge anyone with information about Mr Nguyen's death to come forward and speak with investigators," Detective Inspector Hans Rupp from the homicide squad said.

"We're also very keen to hear from anyone who had contact with Mr Nguyen in the last days of his life and, more particularly, in the hours leading up to his death on Wednesday evening."
