Police probe human trafficking

There were 119 cases of human trafficking and slavery referred to Australian Federal Police in the last financial year.

The Australian Federal Police looked into 119 new cases of human trafficking and slavery in the last financial year.

A federal government report says one third of the cases involved sexual exploitation, another third related to forced marriage and the rest were mostly labour exploitation.

There are currently two human trafficking and slavery cases before Australian courts involving four defendants.
