NSW Police have seized several items, including a computer, during a raid on the home of former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer.

The operation was conducted on Wednesday morning at his lavish Lidcombe mansion in Sydney's southwest as removalists were loading some of Mr Mehajer's furniture into a truck.

"The search warrant relates to an ongoing investigation," a police spokeswoman told AAP.

A removalist, who did not want to be named, told reporters up to 15 officers conducted the raid as he and his colleagues were removing items from the home.

They'd been booked on Tuesday to move a bed, dining table, desk and other items to an address in Watson's Bay or Vaucluse.

"The police came and said we needed to stop work and wait a couple of hours until they've finished investigating the house," the mover told reporters.

The removal truck was also searched.

Plain clothed police officers were seen leaving Mr Mehajer's home with several bags of evidence as well as a computer.

Mr Mehajer arrived at the home in a Range Rover before 2pm. He left in a BMW about 10 minutes later after with officers inside.

The home was understood to have been advertised for lease in August.

Detectives in mid-October confirmed they were investigating allegations companies linked to Mr Mehajer were involved in car insurance fraud.

It's been suggested two collisions last year were similar to Mehajer's car crash in October, when he was stretchered to hospital in an ambulance wearing a neck brace.

An insurance assessment review found the cars last year were likely stationary when struck, the Seven Network has reported.

The former deputy mayor was travelling to court last month to face assault charges when he was involved in a crash. The hearing was adjourned until early next year.

Mr Mehajer subsequently appeared in a Sydney court on October 24 regarding a separate civil dispute relating to a property transaction.
