A Queensland police taskforce, which helped jail 22 international child abusers in 2008, has begun investigating Facebook sites created in honour of slain girl Trinity Bates.
Police said Task Force Argos is working with Facebook after child pornography was posted on memorial sites following the discovery of Trinity's body in Bundaberg on Monday.
Site administrators took down the posts and closed one site following requests from police.
It is alleged some of the information posted constitutes child exploitation material.
Public 'should remain calm'
"The public is urged to remain calm in this situation and are reminded that these matters are being investigated by police as a priority," Acting Assistant Commissioner Mike Condon said in a statement.
Police said on Wednesday they were investigating four people over the posts, but so far don't have enough evidence to press charges.
Eight-year-old Trinity was found dead in a drain on Monday, close to her family home on Walker Street, Bundaberg.
Allyn John Slater, 19, of Bundaberg, has been charged with her murder and has been remanded in police custody for a committal mention on May 17.
Task Force Argos helped bust an international child porn ring in February 2008, leading to 22 arrests.
The internet ring posted images and movies of child abuse on demand.
