NSW Police say they're teaming up with the Community Relations Commission for a Multicultural NSW to help break down the isolation experienced by international students in NSW.
Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate is the NSW Police Force Corporate Spokesperson for the safety of International Students.
He said more international students were coming forward with a range of concerns.
"What we've seen is that it's not just the problems that relate to crime but it's also a number of other things such as accommodation issues, issues relating to work and maybe safety,” he said.
Detective SuperintendentDengate said that there were moves to encourage ethnic communities to play a bigger role in helping international students settle into Australia.
"What we want to do is build a bridge between those and the actual students and get some connectivity between kids coming out here to study and live and the local community."
Earlier this year the steps taken by NSW Police to improve relations with international students were commended by the Community Relations Commission for a Multicultural NSW.
The Commission said their policies could act as a template for other services working with multicultural communities.
