Political cartoonist Ron Tandberg dies

Australian illustrator and political cartoonist Ron Tandberg has died.

Ron Tandberg, who was born in 1943, was a renowned cartoonist for Melbourne newspaper The Age.

According to the National Portrait Gallery, Tandberg was working as a teacher when he first pitched a cartoon to the paper, which he then went on to join in 1972.

He won numerous awards over the course of his career, including 10 Walkley Awards, a Melbourne Press Club Quill Award for Best Illustration in Any Medium and the National Museum of Australia’s Political Humour Award.

The Age confirmed Tandberg had died on Monday after a battle with cancer.
