Poll blow for Labor in Vic marginal seats

Labor is trailing in two key Victorian marginal seats, but looks likely to hold onto a third, a Galaxy Research poll shows.

Labor looks set to lose two key Victorian marginal seats, but should hang onto a third, a Galaxy Research poll shows.

Liberal candidate Sarah Henderson is well ahead in Australia's most marginal seat of Corangamite, leading Labor MP Darren Cheeseman 56 to 44 per cent on a two-party preferred basis, the poll published in News Corp Australia papers shows.

In 2010, just 800 votes separated the pair and both Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott have visited Corangamite this week.

Labor is also behind in the marginal seat of La Trobe, according to the poll.

Former Liberal MP Jason Wood is leading La Trobe incumbent Laura Smyth 51 to 49 per cent on a two-party preferred basis.

But it is better news for Labor in Chisholm, where speaker Anna Burke is leading Liberal opponent John Nguyen 52 to 48 per cent on a two-party preferred basis.

The polls were taken on Tuesday.
