A police dog in Spain has become an online sensation after he was filmed performing CPR on a fallen colleague.

The Municipal Police of Madrid showcased the dog, who is fondly named Poncho, in a video shared on Twitter.

In the clip, a police officer dramatically falls to the ground before lying down and staying perfectly still.

Poncho then runs over and tries to wake him up by pushing his side.

When the officer doesn't move, Poncho then jumps up and down on his chest four times before placing his ear next to the man's mouth to listen for breathing.

The dog repeats the procedure until his handler comes up for air.

The incredible video has racked up more than two million views and re-tweeted thousands of times.
