Ricky Ponting has vigorously defended Australian cricket's anti-corruption measures, saying the players are left in no doubt about their responsibilities.
The former Australian captain was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall Of Fame in Melbourne on Wednesday night, only hours after giving evidence via video link at Chris Cairns's perjury trial in London.
Ponting told the court he was with Brendon McCullum in an Indian hotel room in 2008 when Cairns called his New Zealand compatriot to discuss a business proposal.
McCullum last week told the court that following the call, he went to meet Cairns, who asked him to become involved in match fixing.
Ponting would not discuss his involvement in the court case, but said every member of the Australian team was well educated about anti-corruption measures.
"I've been schooled for 15 years on that - we have a meeting once, if not more than once, every year," he said.
"Every young player who comes into the system gets the same meeting.
"We have a really good understanding of how to handle those situations.
"I know how much money is bet on games in Australia and how much money is bet on every Big Bash game in Australia - it's quite alarming.
"But as long as the players have the right education, that's all you can do."
Ponting added there were indiscretions in all walks of life and business.
"But thankfully in Australian cricket, certainly over a long period of time, we've had a squeaky-clean reputation as far as the way we go about our cricket," he said.
"Long may that continue and long may the authorities and the anti-corruption units around the world continue to do what they do ... (and) hopefully completely stamp it out of our game."
