Australia captain Ricky Ponting faces his moment of truth in the MCG nets this morning as he attempts to pass a fitness test on his broken finger.

Ponting is determined to play in the crucial fourth Ashes Test at the MCG starting on Sunday but will be in serious pain after fracturing his left little finger during last week's win in the third Test in Perth.

The skipper completed training drills without any dramas yesterday.

Uncapped NSW batsman Usman Khawaja is on standby but it appears likely Ponting will play on Sunday.
