Port boss to ignore AFL experience

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley says age and experience won't dictate his team selection for Saturday night's AFL elimination final against West Coast.

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley says he'll ignore age and experience when picking his side for Saturday night's AFL elimination against West Coast.

The Power are set to field the least experienced team in this year's finals - against an Eagles side which boasts the most experience on a games-played basis.

"It's nothing so much to do with the experience versus the inexperienced players," Hinkley told reporters on Monday.

"It's about what we think is best side to give ourselves a chance to win the game.

"And that is the way we will go about it. We will pick the side based on winning and beating the West Coast Eagles, nothing more."

Based on teams in the last home-and-away round, the Power average 90 games experience, while the Eagles average 140 games.

"It won't come down to how old they (West Coast) are or how old we are when the game starts on Saturday night, it will come down to the best execution," Hinkley said.

"I pick the best team that is available to win ... whether we think that is someone that is a bit younger or someone who is a bit older, it won't matter."

Hinkley said he would consider stalwart Jackson Trengove for a recall, after dropping the tall utility for the last three home-and-away rounds.

Trengove played in a final for Port's SANFL side last Saturday but left the field late after copping a head knock.

"He's fine this morning ... but obviously he will go through all of the procedures that he need to go through to make sure he has got no delayed effect of concussion or anything like that," Hinkley said.

But veteran halfback Matthew Broadbent, recovering from an ankle injury, won't return.

The 161-gamer hasn't featured at AFL level since round 19 but has played the past two state league games.

"He is still in that process of recovering ... he is still not quite at his absolute best," Hinkley said.

"He has probably got another game or two in front of him hopefully in the SANFL before we would consider him seriously for the AFL."
