Port Adelaide are bracing to lose All Australian ruckman Paddy Ryder for possibly a month but are heartened by Robbie Gray's recovery after being knocked out in the loss to Fremantle.

Ryder will soon have scans on his injured hip flexor muscle while Gray could play this weekend despite being knocked unconscious in Port's nine-point defeat to the Dockers on Sunday.

"The positive news is Robbie is fine and had no ill effects so far and hopefully be fine this week," Port assistant coach Brendon Lade told reporters on Monday.

"At this stage he pulled up really well ... we don't play until Sunday so we have a little bit of time to recover but he will be assessed on Thursday or Friday.

"We got pretty good signs last night, there were no headaches.

"He will have all the tests and pass all them and if he's not feeling 100 per cent, he won't be playing."

Fremantle's Ryan Nyhuis was reported for rough conduct for his tackle on Gray.

"It's always hard watching someone get knocked out in a tackle," Lade said.

"But it's hard for the tackler as well, they don't know if he's still got the ball in his hands or not."

Ryder returned to Adelaide on Monday with his Port teammates and will have scans on his hip injury.

He won't play against Greater Western Sydney this Sunday at Adelaide Oval.

"He will get scanned in the next couple of days and we'll go from there but it looks like he will miss a few weeks," Lade said.

Ryder missed five consecutive games earlier this year because on achilles injury.

"He will do his rehab, he has been very diligent with his achilles and getting that right, so he will do his work," Lade said.

"If it's two weeks, if it's four weeks, who knows, we will assess it."
