Port Adelaide defender Jasper Pittard will return for Friday night's AFL fixture against Richmond.

Pittard, who has missed the past three games, will replace his taller teammate Jack Hombsch for the Adelaide Oval encounter against a Tigers outfit missing Brownlow medallist Dustin Martin (calf).

"It's opposition too a little bit because Richmond do tend to play a smaller forward line," Port coach Ken Hinkley told reporters on Thursday.

"And with the three or four talls we have down there at the moment, it's probably one too many for Richmond."

Hinkley forecast just that one change to his team from last week's loss to Hawthorn.

And while Richmond will be without star Martin, Hinkley remained an unabashed admirer of the second-placed Tigers.

"It's a good headache not to have, I have got to say - he's the best player in the competition," Hinkley said of Martin.

"But you watch Richmond, you know how well they are playing at the moment.

"They're competing as a team ... it's the whole lot of them, they're putting an enormous amount of pressure on.

"You admire the way they play consistently now for a long period of time.

"It's a real challenge to stay in that space. Every side is trying to do it and Richmond seem to be able to have mastered it week-in, week-out at the moment."

Friday night's game starts a high-profile home-game stretch for the Power: a Thursday night match against Western Bulldogs next week followed by a Friday night encounter against Melbourne.

"It's exciting for us as a football club ... it's a great opportunity for our football club and a great opportunity for our fans to come along and hopefully we will play football to make them proud," Hinkley said.

"It doesn't add any more extra pressure. We would like to be able to represent the club more often in those timeslots but we have got to play well to do that.

"And the opportunity is for us to play well against a high-quality side in Richmond on a national stage and show people that we're a worthy contender."
