Port's Wines to miss start of AFL season

Port Adelaide's potential captain Ollie Wines will miss the start of the AFL season after having surgery on a shoulder hurt in a water skiing accident.

Wines, in contention to replace Travis Boak as Port's captain, had arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old dislocated his right shoulder while water skiing on the River Murray last Saturday.

"His progress will be assessed in coming weeks with a view to him returning to the field early in the home and away season," Port's football manager Chris Davies said.

Wines has been ruled of playing in the the pre-season competition which starts on March 2 for the Power.

Port's premiership season opens with an away fixture against Melbourne on March 23.
