Possible breakup for SA 'love lock' bridge

An Adelaide City councillor is pushing to remove about 1000 "love locks" from the University of Adelaide footbridge because they're too heavy.

About 1000 "love locks" could be removed from an Adelaide footbridge amid fears they could eventually cause it to collapse.

Adelaide City councillor Alex Antic is pushing for a report into structural damage caused by the locks, which have built up on the University of Adelaide footbridge over the past decade.

"It's not necessarily a bridge too far, so to speak, to suggest there might be some long term structural problems - including collapse - if they were to go on unchecked," he told AAP on Thursday.
