Australian shooting veteran Warren Potent is hoping to carry his World Cup form into this year's Olympics after winning a silver medal at a test event in Brazil.

The 54-year-old was narrowly beaten by Germany's Henri Junghaenel in the men's 50m rifle prone final at the ISSF World Cup in Rio on Friday morning (AEST).

It's his second silver medal in two months, having also finished on the podium in the World Cup event in Bangkok in March.

Potent was earlier this month named in Australia's Olympic shooting team and will be heading to his fifth Games.

"I feel good," the Beijing 2008 Olympics bronze medallist said.

"I shot consistently for the whole day and I had to fight in the second half of the final.

"I'm happy with my performance and proud to be taking home a medal. Looking forward to the Olympics!"
