All but 471 homes and businesses in Brisbane now have power and severe weather has subsided, Fairfax reports.
More than 15,000 southeast Queensland properties were blacked out last night, as a spectacular electrical storm hit the region.
The Bureau of Meteorology had been warning of a severe storm all day, so flood-weary residents were not caught off guard when dark clouds descended mid-afternoon on Monday.
The CBD resembled night time at 3.30pm (AEST), when lightning and thunder sent workers scuttling indoors.
The bureau recorded very heavy rainfall at Wacol, southwest of Brisbane, with 98mm in an hour and 70mm in 30 minutes.
In the city's north, 70mm of rain was recorded in an hour at Mitchelton.
The bureau's radar showed a second line of storms following the first, moving from the west toward the Gold Coast.
They were forecast to effect Beaudesert, Laidley, Gatton and Rosewood, southwest of Brisbane, by 5.05pm (AEST) and Ipswich, Lake Manchester, Lowood and Fernvale by 5.35pm (AEST).
Energex reported most power outages in the Lockyer Valley, one of the worst-affected areas of January's flash floods.
Almost 4000 properties there were blacked out at 4.30pm (AEST).
The storm came after three days of above-average heat in the southeast.
Train services were also disrupted, particularly on the Ipswich line.
