Power cuts out at major Adelaide hospital

A major Adelaide hospital lost power for up to 30 minutes on Tuesday.

A power outage has disrupted two surgeries at a major Adelaide hospital, while the emergency department was also affected and elective surgeries postponed.

Electricity cut out at the Women's and Children's Hospital about 12.30pm on Tuesday, with some areas affected for up to 30 minutes.

A statement released by SA Health later in the afternoon said power has been restored with "no adverse patient outcomes".

"Two surgeries were underway during the disruption but were successfully completed and both patients are recovering well," it reads.

The outage affected clinical areas in the Queen Victoria and Rogerson buildings.

Although power was reconnected, non-urgent ambulance arrivals were being diverted to the Lyell McEwin Hospital or Flinders Medical Centre and some elective surgeries had been postponed as a precaution.

The hospital's back-up generator was tested last week, officials said, and an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the interruption.
