Power second on grid at Alabama IndyCar

Will Power has qualified second on the grid for Monday's (AEST) IndyCar Grand Prix of Alabama.

Australian IndyCar driver Will Power qualified second behind Penske teammate Simon Pagenaud for the Grand Prix of Alabama.

Pagenaud, who has a win and two runners-up finish in the first three races, edged Power in `Fast 6' qualifying with a lap of 1:06.7262 for Sunday's (Monday AEST) race.

Team Penske has four straight pole positions this season, but it's the first of the year for Pagenaud.

Power, a two-time winner on the 17-turn, 2.3-mile (3.7km) road course, had the second-fastest lap.

He'd won the pole three times since 2010 in Alabama and will start up front for the sixth consecutive year.

Defending champion Josef Newgarden will start third, followed by Scott Dixon, Sebastian Bourdais and Graham Rahal.

Chevrolet continued to dominate with the top five qualifiers.
