Australian driver Will Power improved to finish third as American Graham Rahal completed a doubleheader sweep in Indycar's Detroit Grand Prix.

The 2104 Indycar series champion, Power, could only finish 18th in race one on Saturday.

But he snatched the final podium spot on Sunday in a race that came down to a two-lap dash after the race was red-flagged after lap 67 to allow track workers to clear crash debris from the Belle Isle course.

Rahal's Honda-power car finished 1.17 seconds ahead of Josef Newgarden's Chevrolet, a day after getting to the chequered flag six-plus seconds ahead of the competition.

Rahal became the first driver to sweep in Detroit since it began hosting doubleheaders in 2013. He became the first to win two IndyCar races in a weekend since New Zealand's Scott Dixon pulled off the feat four years ago in Toronto.

Power now sits eighth in the championship standings with 233 points, while Dixon leads on 303 and Rahal climbed to sixth with 251.
