Power consumption along Australia's east coast rose in the first three weeks of the year, latest figures show.
Householders, businesses and industry in Australia's eastern and southern states used two per cent more electricity between January 1 and January 22, than during the same time last year, according to figures from the Australian Energy Market Operator.
Queenslanders have cranked up their use the most, by nine per cent, while in NSW power use was up six per cent.
But in Victoria and South Australia power consumption was down nine per cent and in Tasmania it was four per cent lower.
Western Australians have also curbed electricity use by 8.5 per cent.
