The Victorian Labor government is threatening to decimate volunteer firefighting in the state by backing the union, Employment Minister Michaelia Cash has warned.

Senator Cash is flying to Melbourne on Sunday where the Country Fire Association is protesting against the Daniel Andrews government's handling of a feud between the union and volunteers.

"(The premier) is backing the United Firefighters Union every step of the way, they have told him they want volunteer fighters decimated, they want to take control of the industry," Senator Cash told Sky News on Sunday.
