Pressure hurt world title bid: Davidson

Australians Sarah Edmiston and Brayden Davidson have won bronze medals at the para-athletics world championships in London.

Star para-athlete Brayden Davidson has rued a bout of nerves after winning bronze in the T36 long jump at the world championships in London.

The Australian had his sights set on a world title after claiming Paralympic gold in the same event in Rio last year.

But the 19-year-old jumped 5.39m in Tuesday's final - 24cm shorter than Ukrainian winner Roman Pavlyk - to finish third.

"I would be lying if I said I was completely happy with my result today," Davidson said.

"There were a lot of nerves. You feel pressure as Paralympic champion."

F44 discus thrower Sarah Edmiston also claimed bronze on Tuesday as Australia went without a gold medal on the meet's sixth day.

Edmiston threw 33.80m on her third attempt, almost a metre short of China's Juan Yao, who claimed gold.

The results take Australia's medal haul to 15, including four gold, to sit seventh on the standings behind leaders China and the United States (14 gold medals).

Meanwhile, Australia defending champion Angie Ballard has reached Wednesday's T53 400m final after briefly setting an event record of 56.02 seconds in her heat.

Rio Paralympian Jemima Moore placed sixth in the T53 800m final on Tuesday.
