Prince Harry takes Sydney by storm

Prince Harry has arrived to a wet and windy Sydney as part of a fleeting two-day visit to launch the countdown for the 2018 Invictus Games.

Prince Harry's arrival has taken Sydney by storm. Literally.

The 32-year-old, who travelled from Singapore where he took part in a charity polo match, arrived in Sydney just after 7pm on Tuesday.

The state's weather took a wild turn late on Tuesday night, prompting the Bureau of Meteorology to issue a severe weather warning for the south and Illawarra coasts.

The warning has since been lifted with BOM urging residents to remain vigilant of flood water, fallen trees and debris on the road.

Thunderstorms are expected to continue rolling in through the east on Wednesday morning with south to south-westerly winds of up to 45km/h.

Prince Harry's two-day-visit may see a speckle of sun however, with Thursday's forecast predicted to be cloudy with a possible rainfall of only two to eight millimetres.

During his fleeting visit, the prince will launch the 500-day countdown to the Invictus Games - sports competition for 500 wounded former and serving defence personnel from 17 nations that will be held in the harbour city in October next year.

Prince Harry founded the event four years ago.

The prince's last Sydney visit in 2015 attracted hundreds of people to the harbour as he wound up his 10 years with the British Army by spending a month on attachment with Australian troops in Perth and Darwin.

He will stop by Campbell's Cove on Wednesday, flanked by Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Veteran Affairs Minister David Elliott and will meet many members of the Australian squad hoping to be selected for the games.
