A fellow prisoner has used an improvised weapon to attack the man who abducted and murdered Queensland schoolboy Daniel Morcombe.
Brett Peter Cowan suffered superficial wounds to his neck and ear when a fellow inmate attacked him with an "improvised implement", Queensland Corrective Services said on Friday.
It happened in the common area of a secure unit at Wolston Correctional Centre, where Cowan is serving a life sentence for murdering 13-year-old Daniel more than 14 years ago.
"Queensland Corrective Services officers brought the situation quickly under control. The prisoner did not sustain any serious injury," Corrective Services said in a statement.
It is the second such attack on Cowan in just over 18 months. In August 2016, a fellow inmate tipped a bucket of boiling water over the child killer while he was playing cards.

Any change to Cowan's security arrangements in jail will depend on the outcome of a police investigation.
Cowan is among Australia's most loathed criminals. Just before Christmas in 2003, he abducted Daniel from a Sunshine Coast bus stop, took him to a secluded spot and choked him to death when he tried to escape.
Daniel had been on his way to the shops to buy presents for his family.
After Cowan was scalded with boiling water in 2016, the inmate who did it explained how he had carefully planned the attack.
Adam Paul Davidson admitted watching Cowan's movements for a month to find the best way to harm him.
He got the idea to use boiling water after he saw another inmate with horrific scars and wearing a burn suit after a similar attack, Davidson's court hearing was told.
Davidson expressed no remorse, telling investigators: "He had it coming, he's a f***king grub."
He was handed a three-year jail term for the attack, with the judge telling him no one had the right to act as a vigilante.
