Probe over fatal Tas light aircraft crash

A woman has died after the light aircraft she was travelling in crashed in Tasmania's northeast.

Investigators are on their way to the scene of a light aircraft crash in Tasmania that has left a woman dead.

The woman died after the single-engine Cessna 182 aircraft she was travelling in overshot a private runway on a property in Tomahawk, in the state's northeast.

One man was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the crash on Saturday afternoon.

Four investigators will visit the site on Sunday.

"As part of their investigation, the investigators will examine the wreckage, gather any recorded data and will interview witnesses," the Australian Transport Safety Bureau said in a statement.

"No further information about the accident is available at this time."

A report will be released at a later date.
