Productivity Commission 'should check TPP'

Independent senator Nick Xenophon wants the Productivity Commission to scrutinise the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

A mammoth Pacific region trade deal could come under heavy scrutiny if a push for an independent review succeeds.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership is the largest trade deal in history after 12 countries including Australia finalised protracted negotiations last week.

Independent senator Nick Xenophon, who is worried the deal will be another blow for Australian manufacturers, will ask the Senate to have the TPP examined by the Productivity Commission.
