The federal government is considering buying up property from Oakey residents impacted by contamination from defence base pollutants.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said a full analysis must first be done into the contamination, after residents of the Queensland town demanded help from defence.

"We are considering property acquisition once the interim health reference values have been established and the environmental investigation concludes," he told Alan Jones on 2GB radio on Wednesday.
