Property crime in Australia declining

New figures reveal roughly one in 20 Australian households experienced malicious property damage in 2015-16 - less than half the percentage that did in 2008-09.

Australians are half as likely to have their property damaged now than they were eight years ago, new figures show.

The proportion of households that experienced malicious damage, including graffiti, fell from roughly one in 10 in 2008-09 to one in 20 in 2015-16.

The latest release from Australian Bureau of Statistics estimated 434,000 households (4.8 per cent) experienced at least one incident last financial year.
