Labor has tried to stall business in parliament to urge the prime minister to not delay legislation aimed at protecting vulnerable workers from exploitation.

Opposition employment spokesman Brendan O'Connor moved a motion in the lower house on Wednesday morning calling for the bill - drafted in response to the scandal involving 7-Eleven - to be passed in the Senate before the winter break.

"Any further delay to this bill will deny the important protection to workers from exploitation," he told MPs.
