Protesters to gather at Iranian embassy

Iranian Australians will come together in Canberra on Wednesday to protest the violent response to demonstrations in their home country in recent weeks.

Progressive Iranians are preparing to gather in Canberra to protest against the brutal response to anti-government demonstrations in their home country.

The demonstrations, which began in response to economic hardship in late December, have resulted in 25 deaths and thousands of arrests after spreading to more than 80 cities across Iran.

Iranians from across Australia plan to gather outside the Islamic Republic's embassy on Wednesday morning to voice their opposition to the spread of an "atmosphere of repression" in the Middle Eastern country.

Organisers believe the crackdown is creating a new wave of refugees, and are urging the Iranian diaspora and their allies to join the demonstration.
