Sydney opener Joe Denly has praised Sixers and England teammate Tom Curran's death-over bowling prowess following Sunday's six-wicket BBL win over the Adelaide Strikers.

Curran went for 15 in the last over against the Strikers but overall this season, he has a stunning 7.25 average and 5.80 economy rate in 20th-over scenarios.

"He's probably one of the best death bowlers in this competition," said Denly, whose BBL campaign is finished after he was selected in England's Test and one-day squads for this month's West Indies tour.

"He's a very fit lad and a very confident boy as well. They're important ingredients to being a good fast bowler.

"He's only going to get better which is great for the Sydney Sixers and for English cricket."

Denly smoked an unbeaten 76 against the Strikers in a welcome return to form after scoring just 61 runs at 10.16 across his first six games for the Sixers.

"It's been a frustrating competition personally, taking so long to make that vital contribution," Denly said.

"Obviously delighted to sign off with the win and contribute to that win."

Rejuvenated Denly will fly to Sydney today before heading to the UK on Tuesday, then to the Caribbean on Friday.

Uncapped at Test level, Denly has only played white-ball cricket for England.

He hopes to use the West Indian tour to press his claims for World Cup selection.

"England's record and white-ball squads at the minute are very, very strong," he said.

"It's great to be a part of both of those squads. I'm probably going to have to be patient in terms of getting a chance, certainly in the red-ball stuff.

"The white-ball stuff is very exciting. I'm looking forward to getting out to the West Indies and trying to push my case for that World Cup squad."
