Norm Provan forms a part of every NRL grand final day with the premiership trophy, however the St George legend will receive bigger honours this October.

Rugby league and St George legend Norm Provan has been named as the latest inductee into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF).

The 82-year-old - who won 10 premierships with the Dragons, including four as captain-coach - will join the illustrious group of Australian sportspeople on October 21.

"It is my number one achievement," the 82-year-old said.

Provan, who also played 14 Tests for Australia and 19 matches for New South Wales, scored 63 tries in 156 matches for the Red V in a career that spanned 15 seasons.

Although not yet named as a rugby league immortal, Provan's gladiatorial image beside Western Suburbs captain Arthur Simmons is the most enduring in rugby league history and is the centrepiece of the current NRL trophy.

"Norm Provan's achievements on and off the rugby field ensure he will forever hold a special place in Australia's sporting history," said SAHOF selection committee chairman Rob de Castella.

"The feats of Norm through the 1950s, 60s and 70s as a player, as a coach and those of the teams he inspired are unrivalled, and position his career in a truly rare category that sees him a deserving Inductee of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame."
