A Brisbane pub goer has hurled abuse at Malcolm Turnbull after he got served at the bar first, but didn't realise who he was yelling at.

A Brisbane pub goer hurled abuse at Malcolm Turnbull after the prime minister got served before he did.

Mr Turnbull was attending a politics in the pub event at Carindale on Thursday night when the pub goer became enraged as he waited for a beer.

Police say the man began yelling abuse at Mr Turnbull and his group after they got served first and was arrested.

However, it's understood the man was apologetic and didn't realise he was yelling at the prime minister.

But his remorse wasn't the end of the matter.

He was issued with an infringement notice for failing to leave a licensed premise.

No one was threatened or injured during the incident, police said.

Mr Turnbull is due to visit Gatton, in the Lockyer Valley west of Brisbane, on Friday.
