Push for CHOGM action on child marriage

Commonwealth leaders are being urged to support a ban on child and forced marriages at the Perth CHOGM.

A charity linked to the Commonwealth says it is lobbying member governments to support a ban on child and forced marriages.

The Royal Commonwealth Society is hoping to gain action on the issue at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth in October.

The Society's head of external affairs Joanna Bennett told Aileen Phillips that of the 20 countries in the world where child and forced marriages are most prevalent, 12 are in the Commonwealth.
